Wardriving become fun again

I remember as a teenager I did a little wardriving that was actually a warwalking because I didn't have a car or even a license yet. It was fun, to pinpoint wifi signals and crack them (it was all wpa2), other signals weren't popular yet so it was basically all wifi. Fast forward a lot of years and the environment is now packed with signals, a lot of them! But I was kinda over it, I moved forward to other stuff (sometimes still with signals, but not doing wardriving just for wardriving sake).
But recently I feel everything changed: in the past you had to build your own device, fiddle with it, things would break and not work so you had to wait until you got back home to fix it and try again, and in the end you upload a csv file to Wigle and that's it. Nowdays there are a lot of relatively cheap options, already built and working well, so it's not take a lot of time and energy to be up and running. Also, there is a new website on the block - Watch Dogs Go Wars which is a real-world, territorial cyber game. In plain words, it's a wardriving platform where players scan wireless networks, join competing gangs, and fight for control of real-world map territory.
